Gaelic Officers Scheme

This scheme is currently open to applications until 3pm on Thursday, June 5th 2025.

Bòrd na Gàidhlig have opened a new round of funding for the Gaelic Officers Scheme to support community-based organisations to employ an officer to carry out Gaelic activity and development.

Applications are welcomed from registered Scottish charities or community interest companies registered in Scotland. The fund is open to organisations who have received funding support through the Gaelic Officers scheme who are looking to create a new post previously, as well as organisations that have not. Public or local Authorities, Bòrd na Gàidhlig’s Delivery Partners, Commercial or for-profit Businesses, and individuals may not apply for funding through this scheme.

The scheme will support posts between 1 July 2025 and 31 March 2028 but, depending on your application, 1-year or 2-year support may be provided instead.

The scheme is suitable for posts that will:

  • Support day-to-day use of Gaelic in communities
  • Further develop the rollout and implementation of community Gaelic language plans
  • Support Gaelic centres and activity within them
  • Engage in partnership working between organisations in delivering Gaelic services

The estimated budget allocated to supporting posts via the Scheme is £600,000 per financial year. A maximum grant of £40,000 p.a. is available (pro rata for part-time posts) which can be used to support salary, recruitment and project costs.

Applications should be submitted online through our grants portal, Fluxx, no leater than 3pm on Thursday, 5th June 2025. It will not be possible to submit an application after this date unless permission has been provided prior to the deadline by Bòrd na Gàidhlig officers.

We will be delivering four information sessions to provide an opportunity for those interested in applying for funding to ask any questions you may have and learn more about the scheme. Two of the sessions will be delivered in Gaelic and the other two will be delivered in English.
