General Grants

Bòrd na Gàidhlig supports projects outside our normal funding schemes if officers are satisfied that the project will contribute to the priorities of Bòrd na Gàidhlig’s Corporate Plan and that Bòrd na Gàidhlig has budget available to support these projects. We call grants of this type General Grants.

If you have an idea for a project that doesn’t fit  any of our other schemes in terms of purpose, timescale or budget, please contact us at tabhartas@gaidhlig.scot. When contacting us, please include a summary of what you are hoping to do, the timescale of the project, the total estimated costs of the project, and how much funding you would be looking for from Bòrd na Gàidhlig.

When you contact us about a project, we will consider it and if we believe the project idea is suitable, and that Bòrd na Gàidhlig has budget available for it, you will be asked to submit a formal application through Fluxx, our grants portal or if your application fits one of our other schemes, we will advise you on this and recommend that you apply to the next round of that scheme.

If we don’t believe your project idea is suitable, or we do not have budget to support the project at the time, we will advise you of your best options for other funding if there are any available.

For all applications outwith funding schemes, applications must be discussed with Bòrd na Gàidhlig officers and permission granted to make such an application, or the application will be declined. No requests for Genaral Grants through Fluxx will be accepted where there was no discussion with Bòrd officers beforehand.

It may take up to 8 weeks between submitting your application and receiving a decision, so we recommend that you contact us well in advance if you have a project that you want to start in the near future.

Examples of projects supported through this method are available through GrantNav here.

Further guidance is available here for making applications via our General Grants scheme, if you have been invited to do so.
