Gaelic Plans Fund
The Projects Stream of the Gaelic Plans Fund is open for 2025/26 applications until 3pm on Thursday 30 April 2026.
The Gaelic Plans Fund, formerly the Gaelic Language Act Implementation Fund (GLAIF), is available to help public authorities in the delivery of commitments in their Gaelic Language Plans, and in support of the National Gaelic Language Plan 2023-28. Priority is given to innovative projects and those which demonstrate partnership working between authorities.
Further details on projects awarded funding from GLAIF and the Gaelic Plans Fund from 2014/15 onwards are available via GrantNav.
For 2024-27, the scheme will run in two streams – the Strategic Stream and the Projects Stream:
- The Strategic Stream offers 6 local authorities the opportunity to submit an application each on the basis of 3-year funding to show how they will implement Gaelic development in their areas in line with the National Gaelic Language Plan and their published Gaelic language plans. The 6 authorities permitted to apply are:
- Comhairle nan Eilean Siar
- The Highland Council
- Argyll and Bute Council
- Glasgow City Council
- City of Edinburgh Council
- North Lanarkshire Council
- The Projects Stream offers all other public bodies the opportunity to apply for 1 year’s funding for up to 3 projects each delivered between August 2026 and September 2027 (operating as the Gaelic Plans Fund and GLAIF did previously). A funding round for 2024/25 and 2025/26 were previously operated on this basis.
